Frequently Asked Questions
What is an IEP Advocate?
An IEP advocate helps families understand the special education process, prepare for meetings, review educational records, and communicate effectively with school teams. An advocate provides guidance and support so parents can make informed decisions about their child's education.
Do I Need an Advocate at an IEP Meeting?
Not every family needs an advocate, but many find it helpful to have an experienced professional available to explain terminology, review documents, help prepare questions, and provide support during meetings. An advocate can help parents feel more confident and informed throughout the process.
Can You Attend Meetings Virtually?
Yes. We offer both virtual and in-person support when available. Virtual participation allows families to receive advocacy and consultation services regardless of location.
Do You Work With Military Families?
Absolutely. We understand the unique challenges military families face during PCS moves, school transitions, and transfers between states. We provide guidance to help families navigate IEPs, 504 Plans, evaluations, and continuity of services during these transitions.
Do You Review Evaluations?
Yes. We can review educational evaluations, independent evaluations, therapy reports, progress reports, and other school records to help families better understand the information and prepare for discussions with the school team.
What Is an FBA?
An FBA (Functional Behavior Assessment) is a process used to identify why a behavior is occurring and what factors may be maintaining it. The information gathered through an FBA can help the school develop effective strategies and supports to address challenging behaviors and improve student success.
What Is an IEE?
An IEE (Independent Educational Evaluation) is an evaluation conducted by a qualified professional who is not employed by the school district. Parents may request an IEE if they disagree with the results of a school evaluation. An IEE can provide additional information about a child's educational needs and may be considered by the IEP team when making educational decisions.
